Background

Kitethrills started in 2000 in Caloundra and is Queenslands oldest kite centre. Founded by Dave Chaplin and Aaron Jarman, Kitethrills has been at the forefront of the sport ever since. Kitethrills ran Queenslands first kitesurfing competition and also the 2006 Wave Nationals and the 2007 Freestyle Nationals. In 2002 Kitethrills Byron Bay was formed by Mike Walker, and in 2006 the two businesses were merged with a new partner Dave McIntyre and in the original location in Caloundra. Kitethrills was the first and remains the only operating kite school to have a government approval to teach in Caloundra. In Feb 2008, after the worst summer weather in 20 years Bigwave Dave made the difficult decision to leave Kitethrills for a more secure income. His contribution to school operations, government approvals and event organising is greatly appreciated. In July 2008, Kitethrills moved to its current location at 1 Westaway Parade Currimundi. 2008/09 was a big summer for Kitethrills with the introduction of not only the new store at Currimundi Lake, but also the hire business, test centre, and webstore. The future promises continued development towards our mission and vision.
